Inverness Florida is located on the east side of Citrus County and is the government seat for the county. As the government seat, Inverness is a hub for political and commercial business alike. The historic downtown square is always abuzz with important issues of the day.

The local historic courthouse built around 1912 has been converted into a museum filled with local artifacts and photos that chronicle the growth of the area.

A new modern courthouse has been built near by. Quaint shops and restaurants also occupy the downtown Inverness square.


The city of Inverness is also known for its numerous, exciting festivals and parades. The annual Fourth of July festival offers up great music, arts & crafts, festival food, games and kids activities.

Then, after sunset, residents and visitors alike gather on blankets at Liberty Park on the shore of the lake to view a spectacular fireworks show. Equally entertaining is the annual Cooter Festival, named after the local cooter turtle and Cooter Pond.


Situated on the east end on Citrus County, Inverness is only a short drive to Interstate-75 and the Florida Turnpike, allowing you to reach Orlando in only about an hour and a half. Frequent trips to amusement parks like Disney World and Universal Studios are common.

Inverness and the east side of Citrus County is characterized by many lakes and waterways. The Tsala Apopka Lake Chain including Big Lake Henderson and Little Lake Henderson as well as nearby Lake Panasoffkee are popular spots for water recreation. The bass fishing here is excellent and an variety of boating activities can be found from canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing and tubing to flats fishing boats and pontoon boats as well as airboats. There is even a professional speed boat race each year.


The City Of Inverness is also home to the local County Fair Grounds. In March each year, young and old alike congregate at the fair grounds to welcome the arrival of Spring. Carnival rides, food, games and county livestock from the FFA and 4H Clubs are a great source of wholesome entertainment and county pride. Adjacent to the county fair grounds is the Citrus County Speedway. Spectators fill the stands as stock cars race by at unbelievable speeds on this tight asphalt track.


Other activities in Inverness Florida include the many parks and hiking and biking trails that cover the county. The Withlacoochee State Forest and Whispering Pines Park are just two of the many destinations where you can enjoy all that the natural surroundings have to offer. And the Withlacoochee State Trail offers hiking or biking from the north end of the county right down to Inverness and on through to the southern end of the county.
